Zinc gluconate is a permitted source of zinc. NIH ODS Tolerable Upper Intake Level for zinc is 40 mg/day for adults; chronic intake above this can cause copper deficiency, anemia, and immune impairment.

Zinc salt of gluconic acid (C12H22O14Zn). White-to-off-white crystalline powder used as a stable, well-absorbed source of dietary zinc.
