Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass
Also known as: Wheat grass
Low concern
Wheatgrass is a conventional food and a source of chlorophyll and some micronutrients. Properly harvested grass contains negligible gluten, but cross-contamination with seed kernels means most commercial wheatgrass is not safe for people with celiac disease unless explicitly certified gluten-free.
What it is
Young leafy shoots of the common wheat plant (Triticum aestivum), used fresh, juiced, or dried as a powder.
Used as a green superfood ingredient in juices, smoothies, and supplements for color and nutrient claims.
Why it's flagged
- Potential gluten cross-contamination
Regulatory status
United States — FDA

European Union — EFSA
