What it is
A plant-based butter alternative — an emulsion of vegetable oils (commonly coconut, palm, sunflower, canola, olive) with water, salt, and emulsifiers/stabilizers (e.g., lecithin, mono- and diglycerides) and sometimes plant proteins or natural flavors and colors. Contains no dairy.
Replaces dairy butter for spreading, baking, and cooking in vegan or dairy-free formulations; provides solid-fat structure, flavor carrier, and browning behavior similar to butter.
Why it's flagged
- often high in saturated fat from coconut/palm oils
- may contain soy, tree nuts, or oat — check label for allergens
