Tyrosine
L-tyrosine is a normal dietary amino acid. FDA permits its use as a nutrient amino acid (21 CFR 172.320) and EFSA has concluded its use as a source of tyrosine in food supplements is not a safety concern.
What it is
Non-essential aromatic amino acid; in food/supplements as L-tyrosine.
Nutritive amino acid; protein/fortification ingredient; precursor to dopamine, norepinephrine, thyroid hormones.
Why it's flagged
- very high supplement doses may cause GI upset
- interactions with MAOI medications

"The food additives listed in paragraph (b) of this section may be safely used to supplement the amino acid content of foods... L-Tyrosine."
"The Panel concludes that the use of L-tyrosine as a source of the amino acid tyrosine in food supplements is not of safety concern at the proposed use levels."
