Tuber Melanosporum Whole Plant Oil
Genuine truffle and infused olive oil pose no specific health concern at culinary use levels; many commercial products are flavored with synthetic compounds rather than real truffle, which is a labeling/authenticity issue more than a safety issue.
What it is
An infused or distilled oil/extract derived from the black truffle (Tuber melanosporum). Many commercial 'truffle oils' are olive oil flavored with synthetic 2,4-dithiapentane rather than true truffle extract.
Flavoring/finishing oil for pastas, risotto, and luxury dishes.
Why it's flagged
- common adulteration with synthetic flavoring (2,4-dithiapentane)
- olive oil base contains saturated/unsaturated fats
What regulators actually say
"Natural extractives including truffle are GRAS as flavorings under conditions of intended use."
