Tapioca Fiber
Generally well-tolerated as fiber. Can cause GI discomfort (bloating, gas) at high intakes.
What it is
Soluble dietary fiber (often isomalto-oligosaccharide or resistant dextrin) derived from cassava (tapioca) starch. Used as a fiber source and bulking agent in low-carb and high-fiber products.
Provides soluble fiber, adds bulk, reduces net carbs in formulations, and contributes mild sweetness.
Why it's flagged
- GI discomfort at high intake
- some forms of soluble corn/tapioca fiber may be partially digested
What regulators actually say
"FDA reviewed the available scientific evidence to determine whether each of these isolated or synthetic non-digestible carbohydrates have a physiological effect that is beneficial to human health."
