Soluble Tapioca Fiber
Some 'soluble tapioca fiber' products marketed as fiber are partially digestible (e.g., IMO) and have higher glycemic impact than claimed; FDA reviewed several non-digestible carbohydrates in 2018-2023 with mixed inclusion as dietary fiber. May cause GI side effects.
What it is
Soluble dietary fiber derived from tapioca (cassava) starch, often produced via enzymatic conversion (also called isomalto-oligosaccharide from tapioca or resistant tapioca dextrin).
Fiber bulking agent and low-glycemic sweetener replacement in low-sugar/keto products.
Why it's flagged
- mixed status as dietary fiber depending on specific form
- GI side effects at high intake
