Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
CIR Expert Panel reviewed SLSa in 1987 and reaffirmed in subsequent reviews that it is safe as used in cosmetics. Larger molecule than SLS so it does not penetrate the stratum corneum to the same extent and is generally milder.
What it is
An anionic surfactant — the sodium salt of lauryl sulfoacetic acid. Distinct from sodium lauryl sulfate (a sulfate, not sulfoacetate).
Cosmetic surfactant for cleansing/foaming; not used in food.
