Raw Cacao Powder
Also known as: Instant cocoa powder without sugar
Raw cacao powder is rich in flavanols, theobromine, magnesium, and iron. It is unprocessed and may contain higher levels of cadmium than processed cocoa due to lack of heat treatment effects on contaminant distribution.
What it is
Powder made from cold-pressed unroasted cacao beans (Theobroma cacao), retaining higher levels of antioxidants than roasted cocoa powder.
Used in chocolate beverages, baking, smoothies, and health-oriented products as a source of cocoa flavor and antioxidants.
Why it's flagged
- potential heavy metal (cadmium, lead) contamination
- theobromine content
- may contain trace caffeine
What regulators actually say
