Non-Hydrogenated Sunflower Oil
Non-hydrogenated sunflower oil contains effectively no industrial trans fats. Conventional (linoleic) sunflower oil is high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fat; high-oleic versions are high in monounsaturated fat.
What it is
Edible oil from sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seeds that has not undergone hydrogenation; predominantly unsaturated fatty acids.
Cooking oil, frying oil, ingredient in margarines, salad dressings, baked goods.
Why it's flagged
- omega-6 dominance in standard linoleic version
- rare sunflower allergen residues
What regulators actually say
"FDA does not object to the use of the qualified health claim that 'high oleic sunflower oil... may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease' under specified conditions."
"Trans fat... shall not exceed 2 grams per 100 grams of fat in food intended for the final consumer."
