What it is
Refined soybean (Glycine max) oil that has not undergone hydrogenation, meaning its naturally occurring polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids are preserved and the oil contains no industrially produced trans fats.
Cooking and frying oil, fat phase in baked goods, dressings, margarines and spreads; provides liquid fat for texture, mouthfeel, and shelf life without contributing trans fat.
Why it's flagged
- high in linoleic acid; very high intake of refined seed oils may displace more nutrient-dense fats
- soy is a major FALCPA allergen, though refined soybean oil is generally exempted from soy allergen labeling
