Muscovado is sucrose-based added sugar. Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting added sugars to <10% of daily calories due to associations with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Muscovado is an unrefined or partially refined cane sugar with high molasses content, retaining color and flavor compounds.
