Monoglycerides Acetate
Acetylated monoglycerides are GRAS in the US (21 CFR 172.828) and authorized as E 472a in the EU. EFSA's 2017 reevaluation of E 472a-f concluded there was no safety concern at reported uses and removed the numerical ADI in favor of 'not specified'.
What it is
Acetic acid esters of monoglycerides (acetylated monoglycerides), E472a; produced by esterifying mono-/diglycerides with acetic acid.
Emulsifier, coating agent, plasticizer for fats and edible films.
What regulators actually say
"Acetylated monoglycerides may be safely used in food in accordance with the following prescribed conditions... The acetylated monoglycerides are prepared by the interesterification of edible fats with triacetin."
"The Panel concluded that there was no safety concern at the refined exposure assessment of these food additives... ADI 'not specified'."
