Matcha is a whole-leaf green tea powder rich in polyphenols (catechins, including EGCG) and contains naturally occurring caffeine. Cumulative intake of catechins is generally well tolerated, though very high concentrated extracts have raised liver-injury concerns; matcha consumed as a beverage is not classified as a concern.
