Magnesium bisglycinate is a well-tolerated form of supplemental magnesium with good bioavailability. Excessive supplemental magnesium (above the UL of 350 mg/day from supplements for adults) can cause diarrhea and GI upset.
What it is
A chelated form of magnesium in which the mineral is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine.
Used as a dietary supplement and food fortificant; provides bioavailable magnesium with reduced gastrointestinal side effects compared to inorganic salts.
Why it's flagged
- High supplemental doses can cause diarrhea or GI upset.
- May interact with certain medications (antibiotics, bisphosphonates); individuals with kidney impairment should consult a clinician.
