Hydrogenated Palm Glyceride
Also known as: HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES
FULLY hydrogenated palm glyceride is not a partially hydrogenated oil and is therefore not subject to FDA's 2018 PHO removal. It is essentially saturated fat with negligible trans fat.
What it is
Glycerides derived from palm oil that have been fully hydrogenated.
Texture/structure agent, emulsifier component; used in baked goods, confectionery, and as cosmetic emollient.
Why it's flagged
- high in saturated fat
What regulators actually say
"FDA finalized its determination that partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs), the primary dietary source of artificial trans fat in processed foods, are not 'generally recognized as safe' or GRAS."
Regulatory status
United States — FDA
Permitted; only partially hydrogenated oils were removed from GRAS in 2018.
European Union — EFSA
Permitted; only industrial trans fat restricted (Reg (EU) 2019/649).
