Fully Hydrogenated Sunflower Oil
Fully hydrogenated oils contain mostly saturated fat with very low trans fat (unlike partially hydrogenated oils, which the FDA has determined are not GRAS). High saturated fat intake is associated with elevated LDL cholesterol; we therefore mark this as moderate based on saturated fat load rather than trans fat risk.
What it is
Sunflower oil that has been fully hydrogenated, converting unsaturated fats into saturated fats with negligible trans fat content.
Solid fat used as a structuring agent in spreads, baked goods, and coatings; alternative to partially hydrogenated oils.
Why it's flagged
- High saturated fat content
