Edta
Calcium disodium EDTA and disodium EDTA are FDA-approved food additives under 21 CFR 172.120 and 172.135 with food-specific maximum use levels (e.g., 33 ppm in canned soft drinks, 75 ppm combined in mayonnaise/dressings). JECFA has established an ADI of 2.5 mg/kg bw/day; typical dietary intake is well below this.
What it is
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; a synthetic chelating agent used in food as calcium disodium EDTA (E385) or disodium EDTA.
