Maltitol and maltitol syrup are FDA GRAS and EFSA-authorized E965 with ADI 'not specified' (safest category). The principal concern is GI tolerance: doses above ~30-40 g/day cause laxative effects; EU labeling requires laxative-effect warnings at >10% added polyols.

Sugar alcohol syrup containing maltitol with smaller amounts of sorbitol and other polyols (E965(ii)).
