Calcium Silicate
Also known as: E552
EFSA's 2018 re-evaluation found no indication of genotoxicity or developmental toxicity for calcium silicate, with very low absorption, but concluded that the safety of E 552 'cannot be assessed' due to limited data and recommended further studies. Exposure estimates remain below relevant reference points.
What it is
Calcium silicate, an inorganic anti-caking agent.
Anti-caking and free-flow agent in powdered foods, table salt, and seasonings.
Why it's flagged
- EFSA flagged data gaps in its 2018 re-evaluation
