EFSA's 2018 re-evaluation allocated an ADI of 55 mg/kg bw/day for propane-1,2-diol alginate. Exposure estimates did not exceed the ADI in any population group at reported uses.
What it is
Propane-1,2-diol alginate (propylene glycol alginate, PGA), a chemically modified alginate ester used as a stabilizer/emulsifier.
Thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier; used in beer foam, salad dressings, and dairy products.
