Ethyl acetate is GRAS as a synthetic flavoring substance under 21 CFR 182.60 and as an indirect food additive (extraction solvent). Naturally present in many fruits/wines.
What it is
Ethyl acetate (CH3COOC2H5); a volatile organic ester with a fruity odor. E-number 1504 is reserved (not currently authorized in the EU general food-additive list).
Flavoring; solvent for natural flavors and food extraction (e.g., decaffeinating coffee).
