FDA accepted GRAS Notice GRN 099 for pullulan (no questions). Authorized in EU as E 1204 — EFSA's 2025 re-evaluation maintained an ADI 'not specified' (unrestricted) and concluded no safety concern at reported uses.
What it is
Pullulan; a water-soluble polysaccharide produced by fermentation of starch by the yeast-like fungus Aureobasidium pullulans, consisting of α-1,4 and α-1,6 linked maltotriose units.
Film former, glazing/coating agent, capsule former for dietary supplements (vegetarian alternative to gelatin), thickener.
