Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate
Licorice and licorice derivatives including glycyrrhizin salts are GRAS under 21 CFR 184.1408 with specified maximum use levels. However, chronic high intake of glycyrrhizin can cause pseudoaldosteronism (sodium retention, hypertension, hypokalemia).
What it is
Dipotassium salt of glycyrrhizic acid from licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root.
Sweetener (50x sucrose) and flavoring; foam stabilizer.
Why it's flagged
- Pseudoaldosteronism with chronic high intake (hypertension, hypokalemia)
- EU SCF recommended upper limit of 100 mg/day glycyrrhizin
What regulators actually say
