Dexpanthenol

Dexpanthenol is an authorised source of pantothenic acid for fortification under EU Regulation 1925/2006 Annex II. Pantothenic acid has a high safety margin - no UL set by IOM/EFSA.
What it is
D-pantothenyl alcohol, the alcohol analog of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5); rapidly oxidized to pantothenic acid in tissues.
Vitamin B5 fortificant in foods/supplements; cosmetic skin-conditioner.
Why it's flagged
- very rare skin sensitization (topical)
- high-dose GI upset
