Cytidine Monophosphate
Also known as: cytidine 5'-monophosphate, cytidine-5'-monophosphate, cytidine 5'-monophosphoric acid, cytidine-, CMP
Cytidine 5'-monophosphate (CMP) is one of the nucleotides authorized for addition to infant formulas. EFSA assessed nucleotides in infant formula and considered them safe at levels traditionally added; FDA reviewed via GRAS notifications.
What it is
Nucleotide composed of cytosine, ribose, and a phosphate group; added to infant formulas and supplements.
Nutrient added to infant formulas to mimic the nucleotide profile of breast milk.
What regulators actually say
"EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies issued a scientific opinion on the safety and suitability for use by infants of follow-on formulae with a protein content of at least 1.6 g/100 kcal, including nucleotide additions."
Regulatory status
United States — FDA
GRAS notifications submitted for nucleotides used in infant formula (e.g., GRN 000150).
European Union — EFSA
EFSA opinion on use of nucleotides in infant and follow-on formula (2014); permitted under EU infant formula rules.
