Cold-pressed sunflower oil retains higher levels of tocopherols, phytosterols, polyphenols and chlorophyll compared to refined oil. It is rich in linoleic acid (~64%) and oleic acid (~20%) and is recognized as a culinary oil.
What it is
Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) oil mechanically expelled at low temperatures without solvent extraction or refining.
Cooking and salad oil; provides linoleic and oleic essential fatty acids and tocopherols.
Why it's flagged
- high omega-6 content if it dominates dietary fat
- oxidation at high cooking temperatures
What regulators actually say
