Lime peel oil is a long-used natural flavoring permitted under FDA natural flavor regulations (21 CFR 101.22). Cold-pressed lime oil contains furanocoumarins (e.g., bergapten) which can cause photosensitivity when applied topically; ingestion at flavoring levels is generally considered safe.
