Capsicum Chinense Fruit Extract
Capsicum extracts are GRAS as flavorings and approved natural colorants. At normal culinary levels they are safe; concentrated extracts can cause significant GI, skin, and eye irritation.
What it is
Extract of the fruit of Capsicum chinense, the species that includes habanero, scotch bonnet, and superhot peppers; contains capsaicinoids and carotenoids.
Flavoring (heat) and natural color (red/orange capsanthin); also used in topical analgesics.
