Candelilla Cera
Candelilla wax is FDA GRAS-affirmed under 21 CFR 184.1976 as a surface-finishing agent for hard candies and chewing gum, used at levels consistent with cGMP. JECFA also evaluated it favorably.
What it is
Wax obtained from the candelilla shrub (Euphorbia cerifera/antisyphilitica); CAS Reg. No. 8006-44-8; composed of about 50% hydrocarbons plus esters and free acids.
Surface-finishing agent, glazing agent, and lubricant.
