Arachidonic Acid
Arachidonic acid is a normal fatty acid found in human tissues and is added to infant formula. EFSA has evaluated its use in infant formula and concluded it is safe at the proposed levels.
What it is
A long-chain omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (20:4 n-6) naturally occurring in animal tissues and produced commercially via fungal fermentation (Mortierella alpina).
Added to infant formula and clinical nutrition products to mimic levels found in human breast milk; supports brain and visual development.

- pro-inflammatory eicosanoid precursor at high intakes
