Angus Beef
Angus beef is ordinary beef from a specific breed and is a USDA-inspected meat product that provides protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Like all red meat, frequent high consumption — particularly of processed forms — is associated with increased risk of colorectal cancer (IARC 2A for red meat, Group 1 for processed meat).
What it is
Beef from Angus or Black Angus breed cattle (Bos taurus); a premium-marketed beef breed certified under USDA's Certified Angus Beef and similar programs.
Primary protein source in burgers, steaks, ground beef, and meat-containing prepared foods.
Why it's flagged
- red meat — IARC Group 2A (probably carcinogenic) at high intake
- saturated fat content
What regulators actually say
"USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) regulates the safety and labeling of meat products including beef."
"Red meat was classified as probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A), based on limited evidence that the consumption of red meat causes cancer in humans."
Regulatory status
United States — FDA

European Union — EFSA
