Yeast Raised Currant Buns
Ingredients
- 1 lb flour
- 1/4 lb sugar
- 4 oz currants
- 2 oz butter or vegetable butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 oz French yeast
- 2 eggs
- salt
Method
- 1 Mix flour, sugar, salt, and currants in a large bowl.
- 2 Warm butter and milk slightly, then mix smoothly with yeast.
- 3 Add beaten eggs to the yeast mixture and stir into the flour until moistened.
- 4 Let the dough rise by a warm fire for 30 minutes.
- 5 Shape into buns and let rise for 10 minutes.
- 6 Brush tops with egg and bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
