Whole Wheat Soft Pretzels
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- 2 cups warm water (100-110°F)
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 to 3 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 425°F. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets.
- 2 Sprinkle yeast over warm water. Stir until blended.
- 3 Combine flours in a bowl. Stir in sugar, salt, and yeast mixture. Add enough flour to make a soft, sticky dough.
- 4 Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5 Cut dough into 12 pieces. Roll each into a 15-inch rope. Shape into pretzels by crossing ends over the middle loop.
- 6 Place pretzels on sheets. Brush with egg wash mixed with 1 tbsp water. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake 15-20 minutes until golden.
