Whole Wheat Pastry Fingers With Pine Nuts

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pastry flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons Crisco
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • cold water
  • 1 egg white, slightly beaten
  • salted pine nuts

Method

  1. 1 Sift pastry flour, whole wheat flour, and salt into a basin. Cut in Crisco and butter with a knife until finely divided, then rub in with fingertips.
  2. 2 Make into a stiff paste with cold water. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into finger-shaped pieces.
  3. 3 Lay on greased baking sheets and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 7 to 10 minutes.
  4. 4 Cool, brush with slightly beaten egg white, and sprinkle with salted pine nuts. Return to oven to brown the nuts.
