Whole Wheat Molasses Date Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons melted Crisco
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups bran
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Method

  1. 1 Mix flours and bran together in a large bowl.
  2. 2 Add Crisco, salt, sugar, and well-beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
  3. 3 Stir in milk, molasses, dates, and baking soda dissolved in hot water.
  4. 4 Mix well and turn into two greased and floured loaf pans.
  5. 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
