Whole Wheat Molasses Date Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 3 tablespoons melted Crisco
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 cups bran
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 cup hot water
Method
- 1 Mix flours and bran together in a large bowl.
- 2 Add Crisco, salt, sugar, and well-beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
- 3 Stir in milk, molasses, dates, and baking soda dissolved in hot water.
- 4 Mix well and turn into two greased and floured loaf pans.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
