Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- 2 tbsp Crisco
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/4 cup tepid water
- 3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- additional whole wheat flour as needed
- milk for brushing
Method
- 1 Mix boiling water, milk, sugar, salt, and Crisco together in a bowl.
- 2 Dissolve yeast in tepid water, then add to the mixture along with 3 1/2 cups flour. Mix well.
- 3 Let the mixture stand until light, then add more flour to form a soft dough.
- 4 Knead the dough, divide into two loaves, and place in greased tins.
- 5 Let rise until doubled in bulk, brush with milk, and bake in a 350°F oven for 1.5 hours.
