Whole Wheat Bread in a Bag

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for kneading
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon rapid-rise yeast
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water (120 to 130°F)

Method

  1. 1 Combine all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and powdered milk in a one-gallon resealable freezer bag. Squeeze out air, seal, and shake to blend.
  2. 2 Add oil and warm water to the bag. Reseal and mix by working the bag with your fingers until the dough is completely mixed and pulls away from the sides.
  3. 3 Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding flour as needed. Return dough to the bag and let rest for 10 minutes.
  4. 4 Shape the dough on a greased baking sheet or place in a greased 4x8 inch loaf pan. Cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk.
  5. 5 Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 25 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. 6 Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack or clean dish towel.
