  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup barley meal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sour milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 tablespoons drippings

Method

  1. 1 Sift the whole wheat flour, barley meal, salt, and baking powder together into a bowl.
  2. 2 Dissolve the soda in a little cold water and add it to the sour milk.
  3. 3 Combine the flour mixture with the sour milk mixture, then stir in the beaten egg and melted drippings.
  4. 4 Pour batter into muffin pans and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 25 minutes.
