Whole Wheat Bagels With Cinnamon Sugar Topping

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • Cinnamon and sugar, for topping (optional)
  • Salt, for topping (optional)

Method

  1. 1 In a bowl, mix sugar, yeast, warm water, whole wheat flour, and all-purpose flour to form a dough.
  2. 2 Rub a clean bowl with oil. Place dough inside and flip to coat. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  3. 3 Punch down dough and divide into 16 portions. Shape each into a ball and poke a hole through the middle.
  4. 4 Place bagels on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. 5 Boil 2 inches of water in a pot. Gently boil each bagel for 1 minute per side. Remove and dry on a towel.
  6. 6 Return bagels to the baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar or salt if desired. Bake at 475°F for 8-12 minutes.
