Walnut Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, creamed
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, sifted
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted 4 times
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups walnuts, chopped
  • 4 egg whites, beaten stiff

Method

  1. 1 Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. 2 Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then mix in the cold water.
  3. 3 Combine the flour and cream of tartar, then stir into the wet ingredients.
  4. 4 Fold in the chopped walnuts, then gently fold in the beaten egg whites.
  5. 5 Pour into a loaf pan or two layer pans and bake at 350°F for 30-45 minutes.
