Vanilla Sponge Cakes With Icing
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 3 egg whites
Method
- 1 Cream shortening and sugar until light. Beat in water slowly, then vanilla.
- 2 Sift flour, salt, and baking powder twice. Stir into creamed mixture.
- 3 Fold in beaten egg whites.
- 4 Spoon batter into small cake tins or a shallow pan.
- 5 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 10-15 minutes. Cool and spread with icing.
