Two Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 level tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon flavoring
  • 1 cup water or milk
  • 2 egg whites

Method

  1. 1 Place sugar and egg yolks in a bowl and cream together.
  2. 2 Add shortening and cream again until well combined.
  3. 3 Mix in flour, baking powder, flavoring, and water or milk.
  4. 4 Beat just enough to mix, then fold in the egg whites.
  5. 5 Pour into greased and floured deep layer-cake pans.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 20 minutes.
