Traditional Shortbread Cookies

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour and salt onto a baking board.
  2. 2 Cream Crisco, sugar, and egg in a bowl until thoroughly beaten.
  3. 3 Turn the creamed mixture onto the board and gradually knead in the flour.
  4. 4 Form the dough into two smooth rounds and pinch the edges.
  5. 5 Prick the tops with a fork and place on a papered baking sheet.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes.
  7. 7 Let cool completely on the baking sheet before removing.
