Traditional Shortbread Cookies
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup Crisco
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
Method
- 1 Sift flour and salt onto a baking board.
- 2 Cream Crisco, sugar, and egg in a bowl until thoroughly beaten.
- 3 Turn the creamed mixture onto the board and gradually knead in the flour.
- 4 Form the dough into two smooth rounds and pinch the edges.
- 5 Prick the tops with a fork and place on a papered baking sheet.
- 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes.
- 7 Let cool completely on the baking sheet before removing.
