Traditional Milk Caramel Custard

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons sugar (for caramel)

Method

  1. 1 Beat eggs, 6 tablespoons sugar, salt, and vanilla in a bowl.
  2. 2 Scald milk, then slowly pour into egg mixture while stirring constantly.
  3. 3 Melt 6 tablespoons sugar in a baking dish until brown. Pour custard over caramel.
  4. 4 Place dish in a pan of hot water. Bake at 300°F for 45 minutes until set.
  5. 5 Cool completely, then invert onto a serving dish.
