Traditional Madeira Cake
Ingredients
- 10 oz flour
- 10 oz granulated sugar
- 0.5 lb butter
- 6 eggs
- 0.25 cup water
Method
- 1 Boil the water and sugar together to form a syrup.
- 2 Pour the hot syrup onto the eggs and beat over hot water until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- 3 Melt the butter and gently stir it into the egg mixture along with the flour.
- 4 Oil a cake mold and dust it with granulated sugar.
- 5 Pour the batter into the prepared mold and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours.
