Traditional Madeira Cake

Ingredients

  • 10 oz flour
  • 10 oz granulated sugar
  • 0.5 lb butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 0.25 cup water

Method

  1. 1 Boil the water and sugar together to form a syrup.
  2. 2 Pour the hot syrup onto the eggs and beat over hot water until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. 3 Melt the butter and gently stir it into the egg mixture along with the flour.
  4. 4 Oil a cake mold and dust it with granulated sugar.
  5. 5 Pour the batter into the prepared mold and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours.
