Ingredients

  • fresh or tinned tomatoes
  • water
  • finely chopped onions
  • Allinson fine wheatmeal
  • water (for paste)
  • butter
  • pepper
  • salt

Method

  1. 1 Cut up fresh or tinned tomatoes and cook with water and finely chopped onions until tender.
  2. 2 Rub the cooked mixture through a sieve to remove skins and seeds.
  3. 3 Boil the strained sauce again and thicken with wheatmeal made into a paste with water.
  4. 4 Stir in butter, pepper, and salt to taste. Serve with vegetables or savory dishes.
