  • 4 onions, sliced
  • 6 tomatoes or red love-apples, sliced
  • Fresh thyme
  • Fresh winter savory
  • Salad oil
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 pints water
  • Fish, cut into pieces or slices

Method

  1. 1 Combine onions, tomatoes, thyme, savory, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and water in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. 3 Add fish pieces and cook until just done.
  4. 4 Serve hot with crusts of bread or toast.
