  • 1 red cabbage, sliced very fine
  • Salt, for sprinkling
  • 1 sour apple, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon pork drippings
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Water, as needed
  • Vinegar, to taste
  • Brown sugar, to taste
  • Cinnamon, to taste

Method

  1. 1 Slice the red cabbage very fine and sprinkle with salt. Add the peeled and sliced sour apple.
  2. 2 Heat the drippings in a pot, add the chopped onion, and sauté briefly. Add the cabbage mixture and enough water to prevent burning.
  3. 3 Stew slowly until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally.
