Strawberry Pie With Glazed Crust
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ cup cold water
- 4 tablespoons shortening
- 1 quart strawberries, hulled
- 2 tablespoons syrup
- 1 tablespoon water
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup strawberries
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Method
- 1 Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together.
- 2 Rub in shortening lightly with fingertips.
- 3 Add water slowly to form a stiff dough.
- 4 Roll out dough and line a pie plate, folding edges over.
- 5 Bake in a 425°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
- 6 Brush edges with boiling syrup (syrup and water) and bake 1-2 minutes to harden.
- 7 Fill baked crust with hulled strawberries.
- 8 Boil sugar, strawberries, and water; strain.
- 9 Mix cornstarch with cold water and stir into boiling liquid.
- 10 Cook until thick, then pour hot syrup over strawberries.
